The Michigan Muslim Alumni Association has recently changed its name to the Felicity Foundation and is operating under a new board. The student organization was first founded in 2008 so that students could remain involved in the university once they graduated.
Felicity Foundation supports the position of the Chaplain, Mohammed Tayssir Safi, and works to sustain Muslim life on campus. For more information about the Felicity Foundation please visit their website.
"Our vision is to connect people to their Lord and the Prophetic Legacy by facilitating a vibrant service-oriented campus community. We understand this as an inclusive mission, relevant to contemporary life-concerns and directed towards spiritual transformation. The scope of our work is encapsulated in four areas: Spiritual Life, Student Services, Outreach, and Development & Sustainability."
In terms of Student services, the Felicity Foundation has been instrumental in offering weekly halaqas, or learning circles, (every Friday at 1pm, before Jumu’ah) with faculty, students, and staff, Wednesday classes on the Prophet’s attributes and monthly events such as Reconnecting to the Divine and Potluck Iftars, Felicity and Islamic Studies Program (a department at the University) joint internship opportunities and lastly, a partnership with the Muslim Coalition to help introduce Halal, the equivalent of Kosher for Muslims, dining in the residence halls.
