Local cartoonist tackles 'How to become an Imam in 10 days'

He goes by the single appellation, Salem, but that's more than enough since his work says it all.  Salem is a Muslim cartoonist living in nearby Fenton, Michigan with his wife and children.  His online cartoon work is satire which can be found at salafiulama.com.  

Many of Salem's comic strips take swipes at neo-salafis, and people who, all around, take themselves too seriously (under the guise of religion or something else).  His background is that of sufism, or Islamic mysticism. And Salafism is the strict interpretation and adherence to scripture, according to their interpretation.    

So far there are seven flash automated comic strips for viewing on Salem's website.  Additionally there are links to sites like www.haqqanisoul.com, that visitors may peruse.

One fun comic, and the inspiration for this title, is the "How to Become an Imam in 10 Days".  It talks about how many Muslims spend years in medical school and business school, yet think that they can learn about Islamic scholarship in one short seminar.  They come to realize the error of their ways after a hysterical debate with those who know better.
