Monday kicked off the annual Islam Awareness Week on the University of Michigan campus. Every year, the Muslim Students' Association (MSA) invites non-Muslims to explore what they don't know and what they think they know about Islam and Muslims.
Yesterday the MSA opened the week with a discussion on hijab and conservative dress, appropriately titled 'Unveiling the Veil'. Sister Suraiya Essack-Verachia was the speaker, and according to MSA executive members, the event was a success.

With extensive events like IAW presented at Universities across the nation, those curious about the real Islam have no excuse not to come out. Muslims, especially the college aged ones, make every effort to get the truth out there. They desperately hope that some reasonable individuals are listening.
The purpose of IAW is not to convert or convince any one to become an adherent of Islam. On the contrary, IAW's purpose is simply to inform and take away some of the mist surrounding the fastest growing religion in the world.
Still, no matter how many events MSAs put on and no matter how many Muslims say that terrorism has no place in Islam, there will still be Islamophobia, there will still be haters. And whose fault is that?
