I received a message from a concerned non-Muslim friend of mine regarding a relatively new Facebook group inciting hate and intolerance against Muslims (it would be counterintuitive to name the group here).
Albeit the Facebook page is disappointing, it does not directly affect a Muslim's beliefs or values or physical body. The best thing to do about such groups and fan pages, which inevitably will continue to sprout up, is to ignore them.
Avid blogger and Ann Arbor resident I. Kurdi wrote an article demonstrating the need to 'leave groups like these be'. Muslims should not let the existence of these people and their actions effect them personally, or even remotely. You can read snippets from the pertinent entry below.
"I read that some people on Facebook are trying to anger Muslims by encouraging people to draw pictures of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
It should be pretty obvious to all of you what you should do about this, but here I'll say it for those of you who aren't sure: Do nothing.
Non-believers have been making fun of believers since the beginning of time. They have made fun of all prophets and all religions. We Muslims aren't special in this regard."
Now, it is not always the Muslims way to "do nothing". For this particular situation and for the reasons outlined above, it is best to ignore such groups and not give them undue attention.
As QuranClub's editor in chief has stated, non-believers have been poking fun and provoking the followers of religion for as long as 'religion' has existed. It's not new, it just is.
And it shouldn't bother you immensely. For you know this: La kum deenakum wali adeen
