Check out this cool and bright Monday we're having in metro Detroit!
Arguably, the only downside to such weather is the fact that its arrival means "Construction Season" in most parts of Michigan. Driving becomes an unpredictable mess and the roads become a maze of confusion during this time of the year .
When construction workers are improving the highways in particular, it is troublesome for drivers who are forced to brave detours and arrive late at their scheduled appointment . Fortunately, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has a partial solution to the inevitable challenges that Construction Season brings. MDOT is using Twitter.
Members of the Twitter social networking site, or the Twitterverse, may follow @mdot_metrodet for the most current news about construction projects in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and St. Clair counties. There are also different Twitter accounts for different areas of the state and can be found through a Twitter search.
Some recent tweets from MDOT are: 1)Beginning 4/9 resurfacing 6 miles of NB & SB M-39 in Detroit. It will require lane closures that for the most part will be off peak hours, and 2) M-39 work begins this wknd from 9pm Friday to 5am Monday w/double lane closure on the NB side from Ford Rd to McNichols.
I know some readers are thinking, "Finally! Some valuable and practical information provided by Twitter!"
Indeed. The Ann Arbor Islamic Issues Examiner commends the Department of Transportation on their clever Twitter account idea, and hopes more businesses will follow (no pun intended) suit.
What does this news mean for Muslims? Well, if Muslims check their Twitter before leaving for work, it means there will be less instances of shouting the 'S'-word in anger while driving (the 'S' word being, "SubhanALLAH!", of course).
