Muslim Equivalents MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, and More


As we welcome in the new year more social networking sites seem to be sprouting up and flourishing online. In this age everybody knows what Facebook is and, likely, has a profile of their own. But do Muslims know that there exist Muslim equivalents to social websites like Facebook, Twitter, and even Youtube? These new types of websites are on the rise and have their sites set on becoming a daily staple for Muslim users. Below are a list of such sites that act as equivalents or contenders to the more well-know social networking sites. *Note*- The title of this article states that these sites can be considered "equivalents", not necessarily alternatives, and that it is for "Muslims" which does not mean they are intrinsically Islamic. Ummah1.com: "A network of Muslims aimed at preserving the Islamic Lifestyle that Allah revealed in the Quran and life examples of Muhammed the Prophet." and Muxlim.com "the world's largest Muslim lifestyle media company. Our vision is to connect the world's Muslim communities to each other, and to the wider world, through shared online experiences. Tens of million of users visit the Muxlim Network every year to enhance their Muslim lifestyle and enjoy content including music, entertainment, fashion, food, sport, science, news, culture and more." Similar to Facebook and Myspace. Ummah24.com: "A communication tool for Muslims that lets you share your feelings, news, videos, photos, links and ask questions by sending short and quick messages in real-time. You will love it, inshaAllah." Similar to Twitter. Halaltube.com: "The easiest and fastest way to locate lectures by various speakers. It's updated by you, the viewers, who submit videos/audio files you come across online." Similar to Youtube and Google Video. QuranClub.net: "A collaboration between many Muslim bloggers to provide interesting, high quality, and relevant posts for the online Muslim population" and, Altmuslim.com an "introspective voice that helps promote a critical (and self-critical) analysis of issues regarding the Muslim world." Similar to Huffington Post. Gummah.com: "The premier islamic search engine for the Ummah. Its family friendly and 70% of its income goes to Muslim charities". Similar to the Google Search engine; in fact it is powered by Google. Gummah.com The Search Engine for the Ummah An additional bonus for being a patron of these Muslim geared social sites is the lack of sexually provocative and otherwise inappropriate ads. And, it would seem, that most if the income made from these websites is given to Muslims or charities. Happy Socializing.
