Muslim groups say new scanners violate modesty and privacy rights

For the comic book fans out there, remember how Superman had the power of X-ray vision?  Well, now so does the Detroit Metro Airport.
Shortly following the Christmas Day attack on a Northwest aircraft landing in Detroit, the Metro Airport had a several high tech full-body scanners installed.  The scanners are said to be able to see through any person's clothing, as reported by WXYZ, and reveal a body's contour and shape.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has joined with other prominent Islamic groups in saying that the new machines violate not only their religious rights, but also, the privacy of American people. CAIR has gone on record as saying that both safety and security of passengers and airport staff can be maintained without resorting to using the full body scanners.
Muslims and Islamic groups alike are all for safety and doing what is necessary to prevent the spread of terrorism. The aforementioned are also quite interested in practicing their religion, as the constitution of the United States declares, and preserving the natural rights of citizens.  The Fiqh Council of North America has requested that the scanner's software be altered so that it would show only the outline of a person's body; a less revealing, or embarrassing, alternative.
Muslims should be law abiding and courteous citizens, as on par with Islamic teachings.  But is this one of the laws the explicitly goes against the Islam contstruct of 'haya' and general modesty? Honestly, I was too shy to post the picture in this article, though I will say it is viewable here.
