February is Black History Month, as many of you know, and so invites the world to become acquainted with African-Americans and their contributions.
Many of you also know that black Americans are the biggest group of (indigenous) Muslims in the United States. But how many know how and why that came to be?
Realizing the void in education regarding this matter Muslim husband and wife team, Akanke and Nashid, decided to compile interviews of Black Muslims telling their conversion stories.
The video included below is just a little taste of Miracle in America, showcasing 5 individuals revealing how they came across Islam and the affect it had on them.
The best, most thought provoking, ideas conveyed in the video are listed below:
- We have to tell our stories. Our transformation from the lives we lived before we became Muslims, it has to be told by African Americans Muslims who have lived through that experience.
- Uniquely, most black Muslims (of a certain generation) came from Christianity, to Nation of Islam, to mainstream Islam.
- If we can embrace the concept of one God and one humanity after being enslaved and raped, having our country stolen from us; what else is that buta miracle?
