"Let the largest IMAX screen in Michigan take you on an Epic Journey!" boasts The Henry Ford Museum webpage regarding the upcoming showing of Road to Mecca. The title film depicts the story of the famous 14th century Muslim traveler, Ibn Battuta, and his attempt to fulfill the hajj or religious pilgrimage.
The Islamic Center of America (ICofA) partners with Henry Ford to share the touching story of a great man and explorer and to use history to educate others about Islam. Apparently, showing Road to Mecca is a way for the Islamic Center of America to reach out to other faiths and encourage family outings surrounding the idea of education and entertainment.
It is reported that the filming staff was allowed generous access to Mecca, resulting in actual footage "from above and within the gates of the Grand Mosque". How incredibly exciting!
